• The Pursuit of Non-Invasive Glucose Monitoring the_pursuit_of_noninvasive_glucose_5th_edition.pdf Excellent article on all of these methods for specifically glucose monitoring, but the advice is for every field of monitoring.
• The Use of Near-IR Light to Measure Body Fat Wow, another excellent paper talking about the flawed methods of water buoyancy to measure body fat and proving how IR is way better but the industry isn't taking it for some reason. IR is apparently a great spectroscopy (determining the makeup of things) tool too.
• 42-431 Intro to Bioimaging Really good notes and problem sets for CMU class. WOULD BE GREAT TO TAKE!

• What does spectroscopy mean? Infrared Spectroscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, Sum-Frequency Generation Spectroscopy (generating a different frequency from two separate frequencies, similar to tartini tones in audio]]
• Ocean Optics (main person in space) has a $300 sensor that looks pretty cool. Not exactly sure how it works, but it's really small. here
  • Apparently typical spectroscopy with gratings has a lower bound in size.
• Width of spectral line tells you temperature (from various doppler shifts of particles flying around!) Doppler_broadening

• Black body radiation … it's continuous ?!? (no spectral lines!)

Seems more complicated but better somehow too. Starts getting into cancelling. Says that a patent on “mobile phone spectrometer” 7420663 is prevent a lot of innovation in this space. Don't want to listen to any licensing.

• So he can't use a phone, so he has to use PC software.

Also lots of people have studied Chemometrics, which is a catch-all for all the ways you can learn about chemical things by measuring.

• People use radar to go up to 10 feet or so underground underneath rubble and such. Can pick up heart beats from that far away?!

• Pat Magee worked for Parks Medical Electronics in Beaverton, who makes pocket ultrasound “doppler” systems for detecting blood flow rate (diminished in regions where there are clogs). He said the main problem with ppl dying from clogs is that people don't check them!
  • Higher frequency signals don't penetrate as deeply as lower frequency signals. Good to know…

• Apparently it's a lot of spinning of things and changing phases? Wow…very complex and signal processing intense.

• White Light Interferometry??? Depth scanning on the sort of cheap…White Light Scanner at Wikipedia. Not sure of benefits vs. Laser Doppler, but a paper at the bottom talked about the differences
